BA First bargain fares to North America

BA have loaded some decent First fares to North America. Now BA First is sometimes called "Business +" or "The Best Business Class", but these fares are really good.

Simply use the BA Low Fare finder to find availability at the prices quoted below. Don't forget to set the class of service to 'First'.

Travel dates: “PERMITTED 30MAR THROUGH 14APR OR 01JUL THROUGH 31AUG FOR EACH TRANSATLANTIC SECTOR.”

Your trip must include a Sunday night for these fares to pop up.

Where to credit

BA EXECUTIVE CLUB: You will earn 210 tier points per transatlantic sector when crediting to the British Airways Executive Club. Depending on your status with BA, a round trip from Heathrow to San Francisco will earn you 420 tier points plus between 26,790 Avios (Blue members) and 37,506 Avios (Gold members).

ALASKA MILEAGE PLAN: If you don't care about status with BA, or you are simply looking at maximising your rewards on these fares, you should think about crediting to Alaska Mileage Plan. These fares book into 'A' class, so according to the Alaska webpage you will earn a whopping 450% of miles flown:


The distance between Heathrow and San Francisco is 5368 miles each way, so you'd be bagging 48,312 Alaska miles.

Did you know that a one-way Business Class reward on Cathay Pacific from/to Hong Kong costs 42,500 Alaska miles? This means that with only one roundtrip to San Fran in BA First, you'll earn more than enough miles for a one-way redemption on Cathay between Hong Kong and Europe. And if you start in Hong Kong, your taxes will be minimal.

Bottom Line

Think of BA First what you may, there are some real bargains up for grabs here. Many East Coast destinations are selling for under 2k GBP, whilst the West Cost is going for just above 2k GBP.

Business class tickets typically cost this much, if not more, so these fares are well worth considering if you've got a trip coming up to North America in the new year. Seriously think about crediting these flights to Alaska Mileage Plan. Given that you'll earn 450% of miles flown, you'll be receiving a substantial rebate on the ticket price.
