InterContinental Buenos Aires - 1 King Bed Deluxe Superior Room

This is my review of the InterContinental Buenos Aires.

I have travelled to Buenos Aires a few times over the last two years, but never got a chance to stay at the InterContinental. In order to hit my final Accelerate target, I shifted my business to IHG on this trip.

The hotel is located in the financial centre of Buenos Aires, within easy walking distance of landmarks like the Obelisk, the Casa Rosada and the quirky neighbourhood of San Telmo. The taxi ride from Ezeiza airport took roughly an hour, though that obviously depends on traffic.

Check-in was smooth. I had booked a 1 King Bed Deluxe Superior room. According to the website, these are 'Newly renovated', so I expected a fresh, modern room:

Although the room I was assigned matched the pictures on the website, it didn't feel 'Newly renovated' to me. The room decor was fine and I actually quite liked the hotel's colonial style. But the bathroom in particular seemed very dated. Don't get me wrong, the room did the job but if I choose a more expensive, 'Newly renovated' room category, I expect something different... I raised the issue with the Executive Lounge attendant who apologised for disappointing my expectations.

I purchased Club Lounge access at check-in for roughly £20 a day. The lounge boasts scenic views over downtown Buenos Aires and offers a good selection of drinks and snacks. The catering wasn't anything to write home about but adequate I suppose for the supplement I paid and the service was attentive and friendly.

Lounge access comes with a complimentary pressing and shoe shine service, which I used. I also had a pair of trousers shortened for a small charge. No complaints here whatsoever.

I used the indoor swimming pool, the sauna and the gym. Again, although well maintained, I thought the facilities were showing their age.

My stay was unspectacular but perfectly fine overall. The InterContinental Buenos Aires is a decent business hotel but it is not the most top-notch property in IHG's portfolio.
